A Player Forced to Change X-Rated Nickname for World Darts Championship
The Beloved World Darts Championship
Ah, the World Darts Championship, a beloved Christmas tradition filled with tinsel, family arguments, and of course, the thrilling sight of tungsten flying through the air at London’s Alexandra Palace. This event is undoubtedly the highlight of the darts calendar and even ranks high in the UK’s overall sporting calendar.
Meet Owen Bates, “The Master”
With its festive cheer, drunken revelry, and outrageous costumes and nicknames, the World Darts Championship has it all. However, this year, one nickname might not make it to the Ally Pally.
Meet Owen Bates, a young and talented darts player from Devon who has been making waves in the darting world. He recently secured a spot in the championship after finishing second on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit. But there’s a catch - he might have to change his nickname.
“Too Hot for TV” Nickname Controversy
While other players boast nicknames like Gerwyn “The Iceman” Price and Peter “Snakebite” Wright, Owen is known as Owen “The Master” Bates. However, it seems that his X-rated nickname won’t be making an appearance at this year’s event.
Owen’s darts manufacturing sponsor, Loxley Darts, called him “Too Hot for TV” and suggested a nickname change. They even advertised his darts with the cheeky line, “The Dartist formerly known as Master Bates… Grab the uncensored darts while you still can!”
The Nickname Change and Fan Suggestions
Owen himself confirmed the nickname change and asked for suggestions from his fans. He also urged them to get their hands on his current darts, as they will be the last ever “The Master” darts made.
The Unlikely Nickname Suggestions
Fans have pleaded with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to let Owen keep his nickname, but it seems their pleas will go unheard. Nevertheless, this represents a significant step up in Owen’s career, and changing his nickname is a small price to pay for the opportunity.
As for the suggestions for a new nickname, let’s just say most of them are not suitable for public consumption. “The Jerker” and “Mustard” are definitely out of the question, as is “The Artist Formerly Known As Master.” However, we have to give credit to those who suggested “Kathy” or “Norman” for their creative thinking.
The Anticipation for the Nickname Reveal
We’ll have to wait until the big day in December when the World Darts Championship returns to the Ally Pally to find out Owen’s new nickname. Until then, let the countdown to Christmas and the darts extravaganza begin!
