Union Minister of Home Affairs reiterates India’s claim on PoK
In a recent discussion in the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session of the parliament, Union Minister of Home Affairs reiterated India’s claim on Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). The minister, Amit Shah, stated that if former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had taken the right steps, PoK would have been a part of India today, calling it a historic blunder.
Mistakes made during Nehru’s tenure
Amit Shah stood in the House and took responsibility for the suffering of Kashmir due to two blunders made during Nehru’s tenure. The first mistake was announcing a ceasefire when Indian forces were on the verge of victory, which led to the creation of PoK. Shah emphasized that if the ceasefire had been delayed by just three days, PoK would have been a part of India. The second blunder was taking the Kashmir issue to the United Nations.
Bills for justice and representation
Shah highlighted that the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, brought by the government, aim to provide justice to those who have been deprived of their rights for the past 70 years. He emphasized that reservation for displaced people will give them a voice in the legislature.
Tackling terrorism and the plight of Kashmiri Pandits
The BJP leader argued that if terrorism had been tackled without considering vote-bank politics, Kashmiri Pandits would not have been forced to leave the Kashmir Valley. Shah criticized those who expressed concerns and shed crocodile tears over the victims, stating that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi truly understood their pain and worked tirelessly to alleviate it.
Opposition’s hypocrisy and Congress’ stance on backward classes
Amit Shah also criticized the opposition, particularly the Congress party, for their hypocrisy regarding the backward classes. He accused the Congress of opposing the growth of backward classes and hindering their progress.
